How do you handle the pressure?

Am I the only one who’s felt more than once as doomsday approaches (er…I mean election day) like you're in one of those nightmares where the bad guy is chasing you but you can’t move? You’re running and screaming and crying for help, but no one hears and he closes in and you’re stuck in quicksand with the feeling of “There’s nothing I can do to escape!” burning in your belly? Or is it just me? I had a dream years ago that I was leaving the mall and I just knew in my gut that if I walked out ...

How to Pray Scripturally for our Nation

As we enter the final week before the critical election in America, we must acknowledge that we do not have all wisdom or understanding, but that we have a God who does. I exhort you to join me in contending for His will in our nation. Here are some scriptural prayers you can pray: PRAY FOR EYES TO BE OPENED We pray for the eyes of all Americans to be flooded with spiritual light, so that they would see and pursue His destiny. We also pray for His power to work through those who believe. Ephesians 1:17-19 (NKJV Strong's,) that ...

That Your Joy May Be Full

Everyone wants to be happy. It’s a hot topic right now. If you do a web search you’ll find websites, books, songs, movies, blogs, etc., all dedicated to the pursuit of happiness. In fact, I recently read an article titled, 10 Scientifically Proven Ways To Be Incredibly Happy, in which they suggest that in order to be incredibly happy we should exercise, sleep more, spend more time with friends and family, get outside more, help people, practice smiling, etc., all good things. I would like to add one more thing to that list, pray. Does prayer really produce happiness? I ...

My Strong Displeasure

I love it when my teenage daughter opens up and randomly starts sharing her thoughts with me. I've learned however, to let her express her feelings without jumping in too soon with a "mom redirection" when her venting appears to be getting the best of her. She's told me more than once, "Mom, can't I just tell you how I'm feeling before you correct me?" She's right of course. I just know the ways the enemy gets his little hooks in our heart so I'm careful to help her recognize it too. Recently, we went to get a coke after ...

Plug In!

If you've spent more than 5 minutes watching the news on any given day, you know that the world around us for many people is a very dark and scary place. If we're not careful, we can be overwhelmed by what we see going on around us and forget that God can use us as a conduit of His power to impact this world! Recently I had the wonderful opportunity to pray for a sweet little girl about 7 or 8 years old that I've never met. Her brain had been attacked with an awful disease without any warning. Another ...

The Fork In The Road

Hebrews 4:12 For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power (making it active, operative, energizing, and effective); it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and spirit, and of joints and marrow (of the deepest parts of our nature), exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart. One evening we were visiting with close friends when our conversation turned to the verse above. Their insight on how to apply Hebrews 4:12 helped our family when we faced a “fork ...

Are You Hungry

Our vacation was as normal as any other until she asked, "Are you a Christian"? The maid saw our Bible and a book by Kenneth Copeland next to our bed as she was cleaning our room and was brave enough to speak. Every day thereafter when she finished work she came to our room with several women in tow just to hear more about Jesus. She was HUNGRY for more of God! So hungry that she was willing to risk her job and chastisement from friends for fraternizing with the guests. As we prayed over and encouraged those precious women ...

Practicing His Presence

Have you ever wondered how it's possible to fulfill certain scriptures? I Thessalonians 5:16-18 offers these instructions to us as believers. "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." The words used here are pretty emphatic... "always, without ceasing, and in everything". I think where I've gotten tripped up in the past is looking at scriptures like this as a task list, when really what God is talking about is doing a heart check. Rejoicing always and giving thanks are a state of the heart, not just ...

God’s Global Team

God's Global Team (written days after the Haiti earthquake) Jan 15, 2010 As the past few days have unfolded, amidst the human tragedy we have witnessed in Haiti, it became evident that a rescue task of this size was going to take as many people as possible. The window of time is so short, a few days, before countless more lives would be lost underneath piles of debris in a shattered city. Side by side some of the most horrific images I have ever seen of human suffering and agony was one of the most beautiful, teams from all over ...

Your Voice Counts

On this historical day of 2012 presidential election, one familiar slogan we have heard is "YOUR VOTE COUNTS!" While this is true, a more important truth as Christians is to remember that "YOUR VOICE COUNTS!" Paul told Timothy in 1 Tim 2:1-3, "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. You have a voice in prayer and it needs to be heard! We have been exhorted ...

Squeeze

The word of God tells us in 1 John 2:15-17, “Don't love the world's ways. Don't love the world's goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity.” (Message) What have you been saying you “love” lately? Think about it. We all fall into the ...

‘Remembering His Words’

My husband and I and a team of 11 just returned from a successful missions trip to an orphanage in Port au Prince, Haiti. During the course of the week while I was away, once again a prophetic word was rolling around in my heart. It’s a word that I have been very personally impacted by that was given to two leaders by Patsy Cameneti in 1979 at a Holy Ghost Rally - that was 33 years ago! When I first came across the prophecy, it especially witnessed to my heart over the years, but in particular it has come ...

Mud In Your Eye

In John 9, we read the account of Jesus healing the blind man by putting mud in his eye then telling him to go wash in the pool of Siloam. Follow me as I think about how it must have been for this man. First, he is used as an example. Those with Jesus asked, "Rabbi, who sinned: this man or his parents, causing him to be born blind?" Have you ever had people talk about you, right in front of your face, like you weren’t there? Jesus stopped them immediately telling them, "You're asking the wrong question. You're looking ...

Make Your Daily Appointment

Can you believe October is already here? This fall, many of you are already full speed with ball games, special projects and family events. Before you know it, Christmas will have come and gone and we will be celebrating the New Year! Time goes by so fast these days, we barely have time to look back at our accomplishments and enjoy the fruit of our labor. Sometimes, in the hustle and bustle of things, we even forget why we exist and we neglect what is most important to us. In America we have “to do” list on our wallets, in ...

Kisses to Heaven

Friends who have spent time in prayer with me have at times found reason to giggle because of the way that I relate to the Father. It is not unusual if I sneeze or cough during prayer that I would say, “Excuse me, Lord.” It’s not something I do on purpose, but a natural reaction of my upbringing to be polite to whomever I am speaking to at the moment. It may seem funny, but if it’s Him I’m talking with, it has never occurred to me that I would not be polite to Him too. Of course, no doctrines ...

Hit the Pause Button!

Have you ever been so busy that you thought you didn't have time to receive instruction and wisdom from God? That is probably me everyday! However, we see in I Samuel 9 that just like Saul, we can hear from Him in just a moment of time, even in the midst of "busy-ness," if we will but just take a moment to stop and listen. That's good news! The prophet of the Lord, Samuel, had encountered Saul and knew by the Spirit of the Lord that he was to be Israel's king. It was the prophet's job to anoint him ...

Hidden Wisdom

"And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God" (1 Corinthians 2:1-5) . Paul was honest. He ...

Facebook Wisdom – Arms of Love

I made a statement on Facebook recently that really seemed to hit home for a lot of people, so on the advice of a friend (thanks Brooke!), I’m going to expound a little more in hopes that some more folks can be blessed as we continue to grow and learn together along the way. Here was my post for you to consider. “When my youngest daughter gets tired, hurt or overwhelmed, she runs to me, crawls in my lap and goes to sleep. Was thinking how much better off we would be if during those times we as Believers simply ...

Don’t Journey Alone

The boys & I have been taking our now 2nd journey every evening through Hurlbuts Stories of the Bible, which is for sure among the best of things I’ve ever done with them. Shock of all, as I thought it was only a children’s devotional, I think I‘ve learned as much as them. (there’s a link for the book to the right) After this last week’s devotional time, I truly have a whole new appreciation for being able to talk personally with my Lord. Seeing Moses’ amazing journey in a new, & very condensed, light made me realize how very ...

Believe It Or Not

Scripture: Mark 11:24 24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Doesn’t this scripture make it sound like answered prayer is a piece of cake?? It’s pretty straight forward – ask for it, believe for it, and you’ve got it. I can do the asking and the receiving just fine, it’s that middle step, the believing that trips me up. This past week, I had a situation come up that caught me off guard. I felt like I was being manipulated and undermined at the same time ...

Are We Listening?

Happy New Year! Well, it’s January 1st, 2011 as I write this inspiration from my heart. I can’t help but think of all the different places I’ve rang in the New Year & how thankful I am today to find myself right in the center of His will for my life, even if it is Oklahoma & not one of the Greek Isles! Where is His perfect will for me? I guess it’s in that place of being more determined than ever to make a difference in this world. It’s a place of the heart. Maybe it’s because the years ...
